Final Figma Prototype: Address view

Project Context

AquaInsight is the result of a University case conducted in collaboration with Grundfos, Aarhus Vand (Aarhus Water), and Danmarks Miljøportal (Denmark’s Environment Portal). The idea was to help the public make more informed house purchases by gathering data on flooding history, water runoff, and other such water related data in one database.

We identified that many such data were available, but spread out across sites, making it difficult to track. The site was targeted at real estate firms making it easier for agents to inform buyers. The value sought was a move of residents away from areas with flooding risks to lower the amount of damage related to flooding due to climate change.

Phase 1: Desk research

The initial phase of the project was focused around desk research, with the goal of establishing a general understanding of the problem space surrounding water and water systems. With the problem space established we set out to find an area where we could generate the most value with our design.

My roles were researching water and water systems through internet sources as well as dialogue with our case partners. Our team had regular meetings focused on synthesising our findings bringing us closer to a concrete project. Early discussion of value capture and business model were also discussed. The phase ended with a stakeholder presentation, where we presented our peers and case partners.

Phase 2: Focused Field Research

Building on the initial idea of helping with informed property purchases with the aim of easing pressure on insurance companies caused by climate change. We used phase 2 to focus research on the two main links in our business model. Firstly, we conducted interviews with a representative of the Pension and Insurance trade association to learn about their view on water related insurance claims and to what extent we could make use of insurance data in our database. Secondly, we interviewed a real estate agent to scope out demand for our solution, gaining valuable knowledge of similar solutions in other aspects of real estate sale.

Using the knowledge gained we refined our idea for a second stakeholder meeting with case partners and peers.

Phase 3: Idea refinement

The final phase centered around clarifying our business model as well as refining our figma prototype for the final presentation, as well as writing a final report on the project.
